Special Lecture on "Agripreneurship: Creating Opportunities for Youth Employment" organized by Department of Economics on 11th September 2026

The Department of Economics, Sapekhati College, organized a special lecture on “Agripreneurship: Creating Opportunities for Youth Employment” on 11 September 2026 to create awareness among students about the emerging opportunities in agriculture and allied sectors and their potential to generate sustainable employment and entrepreneurship.

The programme featured Dr. Surajit Saikia, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, Gargaon College, as the resource person. In his insightful lecture, Dr. Saikia highlighted the changing nature of agriculture and the growing importance of entrepreneurship in transforming traditional agricultural practices into viable economic enterprises. He explained how young people can explore opportunities in areas such as food processing, organic farming, agricultural marketing, value addition, agri-input services, livestock, fisheries, horticulture, and digital agricultural services.

He encouraged students to look beyond conventional employment and consider agriculture as a promising sector for self-employment, income generation and employment creation for others. The programme successfully motivated the students to explore agriculture-based entrepreneurial opportunities and develop an entrepreneurial mindset.

The special lecture concluded with a vote of thanks to the resource person and all those who contributed to the successful organisation of the programme.
